Dames In The Driver S Seat

by Jans B. Wager, Dames In The Driver S Seat Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Dames In The Driver S Seat books, With its focus on dangerous, determined femmes fatales, hardboiled detectives, and crimes that almost-but-never-quite succeed, film noir has long been popular with moviegoers and film critics alike. Film noir was a staple of classical Hollywood filmmaking during the years 1941-1958 and has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity since the 1990s. Dames in the Driver's Seat offers new views of both classical-era and contemporary noirs through the lenses of gender, class, and race. Jans Wager analyzes how changes in film noir's representation of women's and men's roles, class status, and racial identities mirror changes in a culture that is now often referred to as postmodern and postfeminist. Following introductory chapters that establish the theoretical basis of her arguments, Wager engages in close readings of the classic noirs The Killers, Out of the Past, and Kiss Me Deadly and the contemporary noirs L. A. Confidential, Mulholland Falls, Fight Club, Twilight, Fargo, and Jackie Brown. Wager divides recent films into retro-noirs (made in the present, but set in the 1940s and 1950s) and neo-noirs (made and set in the present but referring to classic noir narratively or stylistically). Going beyond previous studies of noir, her perceptive readings of these films reveal that retro-noirs fulfill a reactionary social function, looking back nostalgically to outdated gender roles and racial relations, while neo-noirs often offer more revisionary representations of women, though not necessarily of people of color.

Primary Care In The Driver S Seat

by Saltman, Richard, Primary Care In The Driver S Seat Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Primary Care In The Driver S Seat books, Decentralization has become a popular management strategy in many European health care systems. The term describes a wide variety of power transfer arrangements and accountability systems. The logic of decentralization is grounded in an intrinsically powerful idea; that smaller organizations, properly structured and steered, are inherently more agile and accountable than larger organizations. In a world where large organizations control wide swathes of both public and private sector activity, the possibility of establishing more locally operated, locally responsible institutions holds out great attraction. This text explores the capacity and impact of decentralization within European health care systems. It examines both the theoretical underpinnings as well as recent practical experiences, drawing upon both published literature and evidence collected directly from the field. The book also assesses the appropriateness of management processes within health systems for implementing a successful decentralization strategy. Decentralization in Health Care will appeal to health policy makers, postgraduates taking courses in health services management, HR, health policy and health economics, and human resource professionals.

In The Driver S Seat

by Marc Mayfield, In The Driver S Seat Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download In The Driver S Seat books, People asked me, "What's interstate trucking like? What's it really like out there on the road?" My short answer was always the same. "You have to like being alone." In The Driver's Seat -- memoir, travelogue, portrait of an industry -- is the long answer. One month after his 45th birthday, Marc Mayfield became a long-haul truck driver, something he'd always wanted to do. Away from home for weeks at a time, he crisscrossed America in 18-wheelers. Drove into sunsets and, often, through the night. Learned firsthand that truckers compensated by the mile are shortchanged with each paycheck, that the federal Hours of Service of Drivers are as unrealistic as they are dangerous, that every day out there brought threats to his truck, his cargo, and his life. But he loved the solitude of a truck cab and traveled more than one million accident-free miles. Along the way, he all but destroyed his marriage. Then he met someone he didn't know he'd been looking for: Himself.

Download Lovin My Car books, Grease monkeys, gear heads, collectors, hobbyists, and speed freaks, to name just a few of the car and truck lovers out there all share a passion for their beloved motor vehicles. There are endless reasons to love the thrill of the road, the horsepower, and freedom that comes with it all; but who says women can't be just as fanatical as men? After many years spent in cars with her husband, Sam, son Jesse, with their constant banter about cars: the exciting new models on the market, the finer details of engines and their sizes, 'round and 'round about tires, wheels, and gears, the know-how and questions about maintenance and repairs, and so on, Libby Edelman would find herself wondering--why do my men love their cars so? Before long, she would find herself glancing at the magazines at the supermarket to pass the time--and right there under her nose, on the cover of National Enquirer, Edelman found a story about a woman who loved her car so much that she was buried with it! The impact of that story inspired her to set out on a journey to find other women who were just as obsessive about their cars and trucks. Quickly Edelman discovered car and truck women everywhere: Laura and her prize-winning, 1958 Corvette; Maggie's '61 Classic Rambler Wagon named "Bessie"; Natalie's 4-wheel drive 1982 "hi-lux" Toyota pick-up truck; Stella's collection of "junker" school buses that she races on weekends; a black convertible '69 Cadillac Coup Deville owned by Nancy who jams on her guitar while perched on the trunk; and so many more! From the West Coast to the East Coast, Edelman found a community of women from all walks of life who share an automotive love. Some cars are fancy, some quirky, and most are everyday cars. All have proud women owners who share their stories of what their cars and trucks mean to them. These cars are the loves of their lives--an extended family member. They coddle them, talk to them, name them, and (as if anyone could resist) race them.
